This week was focused heavily on a Social Studies unit. She spent 4 days reading and researching the topic using a variety of books, videos, and internet resources. Her final project was to use desktop publishing software to create a newspaper/newsletter that creatively shared the information she had learned. Below is the finished product:
We also tied into LA with our choice of literature for the week and with our Government studies making a connection with the First Amendment.
Through the local homeschool group, this week I found out about a mom who is offering Japanese classes. She is a native speaker. I've been in touch with her and we're looking to see what we can do. Would be very nice to have the additional instruction!
For our life skills lesson this week, she made a Seven Silly Eaters cake. This was one of her favorite books when she was little and after reading it to the little boy we babysat one afternoon, she thought it might be fun to create it. We were going to wing it, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, discovered someone had already done the formulating. It's fun seeing her gain confidence in her kitchen skills!
