Our big excitement for the week was the "Rock What Ya Got" TS Mother/Daughter Camp Out and inaugural Butterfly Walk. 10 Moms/10 Girls, 2 cabins. This was a massive social skills lesson, combined with some health and phys ed :) She will be blogging to fill you in, but here's a little from my perspective:
The girls were visited by a local police officer who spent an hour talking to them about safety and taught them self-defense moves. Then the REbeL organization came out and led a class for the girls on positive self image, supporting each other, etc. While they were doing that, the moms had an awesome opportunity to speak with the awesome Dr. Hawley who is interested in our cause and generating some new buzz in TS research! Afterwards, there were team building games, s'mores, and then the girls--carrying glowing butterfly wands--led us on the first lap of the Butterfly Walk, which will be a full event beginning next year. The next morning, the girls all had to hunt down their breakfasts (think bananas hiding in trees, muffins under rocks, etc) and then we met local friends and family for the official inaugural lap.
We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own. ~Ben Sweetland
